Your Wedding at St James the Great Congleton

Welcome to the parish church of St. James the Great, Congleton which serves the west of Congleton from the River Dane, Swan Bank and Waggs Street including West Heath, to Astbury Mere, Astbury Marsh and Fol Hollow.

Our building was consecrated for worship to the glory of God in 1849 and has remained a popular venue for worship for those who have lived in the "West End" of Congleton and beyond since then.  Over the years St. James's has been noted for its formal, traditional worship, performed to a high standard whilst at the same time assuring the visitor of a warm, friendly Congleton welcome.

When it comes to weddings, our strength is the ability to provide a traditional setting; worship according to the rites and ceremonies of the church of England and a desire at the same time to put you at the centre so that your special day is exactly that.  You will make your vows in the presence of God, before family and friends in your very own parish church.

Whether you are new to Congleton or whether your family have lived here for generations, St. James's offers the perfect venue for weddings.  Stand at the chancel step by the Tudor pulpit, gaze up at the beautiful stained glass of the "Te Deum" East Window or admire the remarkable and unique woodcarving of local craftsman Sam Frodsham who worshipped here with us.  There is much to make your wedding an occasion to remember.

How much does it all cost?  Not as much as you might think.  The basic fee is £452.50 which includes the organist, or £592.50 with Video. Both these prices include the choir. The provision of hymns and other music can be discussed at the time of booking.  Video recording and photography are permitted at St. James's if you wish to have a permanent record of the ceremony.

Are you interested?  If you would like to discuss the possibility of being married at St. James's and have not been married before then contact the church by email.

If you wish to dedicate your married life to God for any reason

  • you married in a Register Office, and wish to "round it off" with a church ceremony
  • you have reached a significant anniversary and wish to celebrate it in church
  • your marriage has survived a "sticky patch" and you wish to enlist God's help for a new beginning

then we offer a Service of Prayer and Dedication, which can be a simple or elaborate as you wish. There is no official fee for this service, but we can negotiate a suitable "donation" based on the expense involved.
